Lanc and Spit at East Kirkby

We flew to East Kirkby today for an absolutely fab day! We had to drop into Fenland first for some fuel… good job we did coz they were closed on the way home!! East Kirkby is a great place as it has been restored as a wartime bomber station and it is the home to “Just Jane” - a Lancaster! The place is owned and run by Harold and Fred Panton. Well, no sooner had we landed and Debs was asking if I could go on the Lancaster taxy run - “if you don’t ask, you don’t get” says Debs! Cor - it was really difficult climbing all the way through the plane to get to the pilots seat - I thought Debs was going to get stuck - hee hee! :-) I loved sitting up in the pilots seat waiting for all the “passengers” to get on… hope I didn’t push the wrong button coz number 2 engine wouldn’t start for our taxy run - oops! I also got to sit in Majors Spitfire - MJ627 with Debs - oooh she was so excited! Then Dale and Andrea took me to tea with Major - brill! But just as we were sitting there enjoying ourselves a Yak came buzzing over… it was Nigel and Debs - Oi! You’ve left me behind!! “Don’t worry” says Dale, “You’re spending the week at Anglia Flight” - hurray!! :-)
